TARGET GROUP - RXB1 RXB2

COURSE DESCRIPTION - The required refresher course is a Prescribed Fire Workshop, (RT-300FS), and is mandatory every other year for U.S. Forest Service employees who wish to maintain currency for RXB1 and RXB2. Refresher training is not required for RXB2 Trainees or RXB3s, although Forests are encouraged to include these employees in their refreshers. It is the responsibility of each Forest to develop and implement refresher training and track compliance through IQCS.

COURSE OBJECTIVES - Prescribed Fire Policy: include discussion on FSM 5140 and the Interagency Prescribed Fire Guide. Review all elements of the burn plan including specific procedures for contingency planning, obtaining spot weather forecasts, and smoke management procedures.

Responsibilities: review responsibilities of all the various Rx fire positions from Burn Boss through Patrol. Include a discussion of Line Officer responsibilities.

Prescribed Fire JHA: review the JHA including safe lighting techniques for pile burning, PPE and all other safety aspects of the Rx fire program.

Lessons Learned: include discussions on prescribed fire problems and how to avoid them; prescribed fire successes and how to repeat them.

Other issues of importance to prescribed fire practitioners.
